Diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases both nationally and globally. In Portugal, the numbers continue to rise, reflecting population ageing and changes in lifestyle habits. This reality reinforces, more than ever, the importance of the work developed at HPA Alvor — a continuous, well-structured effort focused on prevention, early diagnosis, and the rigorous management of the disease and its complications.
Ten years ago, the Diabetes Clinic at HPA Alvor began its activity — a project that has become a true pillar of follow-up, prevention, and treatment of this disease in the Algarve.
Over the past decade, our mission has remained unchanged: to provide excellent, humane, and individualised care to every patient, promoting strict disease control and the continuous improvement of their quality of life.
As the coordinator of this area, I would first like to thank each of our patients for the trust placed in our team. It is thanks to their dedication, commitment, and collaboration that we have been able to achieve such positive outcomes together. Every consultation, every shared moment, and every success reflect the strength of joint work between healthcare professionals and patients — a partnership that has made a real difference throughout these ten years.
It is also essential to acknowledge and thank all the professionals who have been and continue to be part of this story: doctors, nurses, nutritionists, podiatrists, physiotherapists, and administrative staff. To all of you, my deepest appreciation for your commitment, competence, and dedication. A special thanks is also due to all the specialist doctors from different fields who, in a coordinated manner, provide timely care to our patients, ensuring the control of complications and minimising their serious consequences. Multidisciplinary collaboration has always been one of the key pillars of the clinic’s success.
Over these ten years, the Diabetes Clinic at HPA Alvor has grown in both scale and capacity, while preserving the core values that inspired its creation: proximity, competence, and a strong commitment to the well-being of our patients.
We therefore celebrate a decade of hard work, sharing, and progress — proud of the path we have taken and confident that we will continue to grow, innovate, and care, always with the same purpose: to support each patient, at every stage, with humanity, precision, and hope.
